The Limpopo Legislature will take its “A Re Yeng” Educational tour straight to the people of Limpopo this week. The educational concept developed and initiated early this year has already been to places like Mutale in the Vhembe District and the Sekhukhune District.
Today (Friday), the Speaker, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, will lead a group of Members of the Legislature to the Giyani community hall. They will address community structures, organized pressure groups like workers unions, traditional leaders and healers, elders, youths and everybody else on the functions and powers of the legislature.
A second group, led by the Deputy Speaker, Ms Catherine Mabuza, will be at Metz Hall (Ga-Sekororo) at the same time, where they will also address a large community gathering of leaders, organised groups, workers, youths and members of the public.
According to the Public Participation Unit of the Limpopo Legislature, the need for these meetings has been highlighted by members of the legislature themselves and a realization that the community of Limpopo needs to be empowered about the functions and work of the legislature and its different committees.
“The first two meetings held early this year, attracted no fewer than 500 people each,” says Mr Mudzanani, Head of the Public Participation Unit of the legislature. He also says in these meetings, the thirst for knowledge was indicated when people asked pertinent questions on what and how they believe things need to be done by elected members. He says all communities and structures within the vicinity of the meetings have been informed and briefed on the expectations and engagements. All meetings commence at 10:00.
