POLOKWANE – The Limpopo traditional dancing group, comprised of Tshivenda, Xitsonga and Sepedi, thrilled the Scottish crowds, while performing their diverse traditional dances in Edinburgh, Scotland, during a visit to the United Kingdom.
The cultural group was part of the delegation from the Provincial Department of Arts, Sport and Culture which left South Africa on August 16 and returned to their country on August 24.
According to the Spokesperson of the MEC for Arts Sport and Culture, Mr Mmbangiseni Masia, the delegation and the cultural group went to Scotland after receiving an invitation from the High Commissioner of SA in the United Kingdom, Dr Mabuza, as part of celebrating South Africa’s 10 years of democracy with people of the United Kingdom.
Masia said that the City Council of Edinburgh had even dedicated the weekend part of their annual festival to South Africa. “The delegates were led by MEC Joe Maswanganyi, officials from Trade and Investment Limpopo, Trade and Industry Department of Finance and Arts Sport and Culture.
Apart from these festivities in Edinburgh, the MEC met several organisations and institutions to enhance the province’s profile, and most importantly, “to look at possibilities of investment and partnerships” he said. Masia said that the established contacts with the British will be followed up by the relevant departments.
