MPHEPHU – The SAPS at Mphephu have arrested 11 young men between 16 and 20 years in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man from Mamvuka Village.
According to a spokesperson for the SAPS in the Vhembe district, Capt Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, the deceased was allegedly stoned and stabbed to death by groups of boys of Matsha Village Phaphaphani and Thondani at Matsha Village near midnight on Saturday (August 28).
It is alleged that a group of residents from Matsha caught a 19-year-old male and stoned and stabbed him with an unknown sharp instrument all over the head. He sustained open wounds and was also bleeding profusely through his nose.
According to Mushavhanamadi, it is also alleged that a group from Mamvuka found the 19-year-old man unconscious on their way home and took him to Matsha clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival.
The 11 suspects were arrested and appeared in the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mushavhanamadi also reported that the Mukuya police have opened a culpable homicide case, after two people died in an accident on the Sambandou-Ha Mandiwana public gravel road on Sunday afternoon.
It is alleged that a Toyota LDV was travelling from Tshitavha to Sambandou and the driver, a 39-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and overturned several times.
A 31-year-old woman, who was a passenger, was found dead at the scene and the driver was taken to Donald Fraser Hospital for treatment, but he was certified dead on arrival.
