News  Date: 07 July 2006

An Indian businessman was the victim of yet another armed robbery this week, when he was confronted by armed robbers on Monday morning (3rd) on the Makhado/Elim Road.

The businessman was returning from his shop at Hlanganani when he heard gun shots being fired at him as he crossed the bridge near Beja. He noticed a white vehicle travelling behind him, trying to force him off the road.

According to Makhado (Louis Trichardt) police spokesperson, Insp Ndwamato Vele, the businessman pulled off the road when he saw that suspects were pointing firearms at him. Two suspects jumped from their vehicle and ran towards the businessman, robbing him of a cash amount and four cellphones.

The businessman was ordered to lie down, after which the armed attackers fled the scene. Later the same day, the same group of armed robbers were allegedly responsible for an armed robbery in Eltivillas. Insp. Vele urged the public to come forward with any information that can assist them in their investigation.
