The police in the Mopani area have arrested a 24-year-old man, following the death of another 24-year-old man. The incident leading to his arrest took place at the Blinkwater initiation school on Saturday morning at about 01:00.

Capt Maano Sadike, spokesperson of the police in the Mopani area, said that the deceased, Mr Rex Baloyi, came back from Gauteng two days before the incident. According to the police, Mr Baloyi went to the initiation school during the night. The statement indicates that he was drunk when he arrived at the mountain school. The initiates were busy singing when he arrived.

When the time came for them to stop singing so that they could go to bed, the deceased allegedly forced them to keep singing, saying that desisting was punishable according to the rules and regulation for the school. Although most of the initiates vanished and went to bed, some of them remained behind and continued to sing as instructed by the deceased.

The statement further indicates that an argument ensued between the deceased and another man (the suspect). The centre for the argument was that the suspect allegedly told the deceased that his instructions were not in line with the rules and regulations for the school as alleged.

The argument grew over time and the suspect allegedly picked up a stone and hit the deceased on the head. He died on the spot. The police have arrested a man in connection with the case. He was still to appear in court at the time of going to press.
