The late Hosi Shitlhangoma James Shigalo of the Shigalo Traditional Council, who recently passed away after a short illness, was lauded at his funeral service as a real African leader.

Popularly known as “King Stapura,” he was praised as a leader who cared for his people.

At a funeral service attended by thousands of people on Friday, the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Faith Muthambi, said Shigalo was a real African. “Recently he allowed three Somali traders working in his area to be initiated in the circumcision school in his area. This goes a long way in making him a real African who regarded all people in the entire Africa as his own,” said Muthambi.

Muthambi also said the late chief had made her job easier as he was available to be in her entourage when she addressed communities. “I will always remember him for his taste in good clothes as well as his sense of humour,” she said.

The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Housing and Traditional Affairs, Ms Makhurupetje Makoma, also sent condolences to the family on behalf of the Limpopo provincial government.

The chairperson of the Vanwanati clan, Mr Thomas Maluleke, praised the late chief for the role he had played in promoting the affairs of the Vanwanati. His daughters, Tsakani and and Dorris, said their late father had played a big role in the fight for the new municipality, Lim345. They emphasised that the municipality must bring service delivery to the people, so that his spirit would rest in peace.
