A young Limpopo man set himself alight and died after he claimed to have found his girlfriend making love with another man in Thohoyandou last Wednesday.

It is alleged that the 25-year-old man visited his girlfriend at the Univen hostels on Wednesday, but found that another man was having sex with his girl. In shock he went to a petrol station in Thohoyandou and bought fuel, doused himself and set himself alight. He was certified dead on arrival at the hospital.

According to the police, the deceased set himself alight. Police said that he was heard screaming “My phone, and my girlfriend” and followed people who were on the way to the university.

Inspector Nkanukeni Raedane of Thohoyandou police said that an inquest case has been opened. “He had extensive burns to his head and body,” said Raedane

The young man, who’s name cannot be revealed until his relatives have been informed, but according to the police he was a student security officer in Gauteng Province.
