News  Date: 11 August 2006

The police in the Mopani area are investigating a case of rape, following an incident that took place at the Madonsi village in the Malamulele area last Saturday night.

Capt Maano Sadike, the spokesperson for the police in the area, said that there was an unveiling of tombstone ceremony at the victim’s home during the night of the incident. According to the police statement, the victim was playing with her sister outside the house when the incident occurred. The victim is a four-year-old girl. It is alleged that, while the victim was playing, the suspect went to her and grabbed her by the hand. When the victim asked him what was wrong, the suspect told her that he wanted her to show him something somewhere within the premises. When they arrived at the mealie field about 70 metres from the house, the suspect allegedly threatened the little girl with death, saying he would chop her neck off if she made any noise.

The man then brutally raped the girl repeatedly. The suspect vanished in the darkness after the brutal incident. The girl was found lying in the mealie field later that night and she was taken to the nearby Malamulele Hospital.

Her condition was reportedly still serious at the time of going to press. The search for the suspect was also still continuing. According to the police statement, the suspect is related to the victim.

The police have appealed to anyone who knows the suspect’s whereabouts to contact them at 0860 010 111 or at any police station.
