MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – The mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Rhulani Nkuzana, says the Soutpansberg Show has succeeded in bringing together all the different peoples in the community and opened up many opportunities for them.
This year’s show exceeded all previous records set by the local annual show.
Speaking at the annual thanksgiving event of the Soutpansberg Show Committee, the mayor said he was also highly impressed by the security arrangements at the show and praised the police for the role they played.
Cllr Nkuzana said the Show Committee can count on the continued support of the municipal council for next year’s show.
“You have every reason to celebrate a job well done.”
The outgoing chairman of Soutpansberg Show Committee, Mr Tobias Fourie, announced that this year’s show exceeded all previous records set by the local show. It was also characterized by a total absence of tension or any unpleasant incident. Positive feedback was received from various visitors.
Preparations for the show already started with a planning session in October last year. He said the show committee is a community organisation in the true sense. One of the aims with the annual show is to create an opportunity for old friends to meet in a pleasant, relaxed and safe atmosphere. It has, in fact, became the most important event on the local annual calendar.
He thanked the local Council for its valued support and commended all the efforts by individual members, the show management and community leaders.
Mr Fourie announced that the show committee has made donations to the amount of R20 000 to various local charitable organizations. These include the Makhado Youth Desk, CSC, SAVF, Ons Tuiste, the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, CAD, Tshikota Church, Homenet’s Children Welfare Fund, Max de Beer’s Children Action and the SPCA.
Mr Fourie announced his retirement from the committee. He wished the show effort well and said he believed it will continue to grow, in the interests of the entire community.
