The police in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) opened a case of attempted robbery on Monday, September 11, following an incident at Absa bank on the corner of Songozwi and Krogh Street.
A 38-year-old Indian woman was making her way up the stairs to the second level of the bank with a bag of money, when she was confronted by three unknown men.
One of the suspects immediately tried to grab the bag from the victim, but she resisted. One of the other suspects then pulled out a firearm and told her to let go of the bag.
Things did not go as planned for the robbers when the woman started screamed, alerting passers-by to her ordeal. Shortly after she started screaming, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the money.
According to Insp. Ndwamato Vele, local spokesperson for the police, one of the suspects was seen wearing a black leather jacket and another one was wearing a yellow overall top, which he immediately removed before fleeing the scene of the crime. Despite the shock and being scared to death, the victim was lucky to escape with her life and without any injuries. Insp. Vele warned community members to be more careful when handling large sums of money.
At the time of going to press, police were still looking for the suspects. Community members are asked to come forward with information that can help the police make an arrest.
