MOPANI – The police in Mopani have arrested a 37-year-old high school teacher, following the death of a 29-year-old man. The incident took place at Maake Township near Tzaneen on Sunday night.
According to the spokesperson of the police in Mopani area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that the suspect had paid his girlfriend a visit at her kraal during the night of the incident.
While he was in the girlfriend’s home, the deceased arrived. According to the statement, an argument ensued between the deceased and the suspect. The centre of the argument was that the suspect insisted that the deceased was in love with his girlfriend.
During the argument, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the deceased to death. The statement further indicates that the suspect and his girlfriend then allegedly loaded the deceased’s body onto the wheelbarrow.
They pushed the wheelbarrow in the direction of the nearby river. Before they reached the river, they allegedly threw the body into a donga. The people who were passing by on Monday morning discovered the body. The suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning.
He was still to appear in the Maake magistrate court at the time of going to press. The suspect is attached to the Maalobane High School. The police are investigating the matter.
