Limpopo’s MEC for Education, Dr Aaron Motswaledi, further displayed his dedication to education development by visiting and checking out progress at the construction site of the R22m Thengwe High School project.

Accompanied by the mayor of Mutale Municipality, Cllr Lucas Manyuha and other dignitaries, the MEC paid a surprise visit to the site on Sunday morning. The construction work is undertaken by Tems Construction. "I am impressed by the progress so far at the construction site. Thengwe High School has produced quality results in previous years and that is why the Department of Education is improving their learning conditions. Their old school is falling apart and they deserve modern facilities because of their hard work and dedication," said Motswaledi joyously.

Motswaledi says the state-of-the-art school will boast modern learning facilities that will simplify the work of both the educators and learners. "Upon completion, the school will have 34 classrooms, Computer, Biology and Science Laboratories, Home Craft Centre, a Media Centre, School Hall, Ablution Block and Administration Block. We are looking forward that the school will be ready at the end of June next year. I am very pleased by the progress here because approximately 40% of the work has already been done."

Motswaledi says Thengwe High School comes out tops despite the fact that they have more than the required number of learners. "A normal school must have 1 200 learners but Thengwe High School has 1 800. They still produce good results despite overcrowding and poor facilities, which is a good achievement compared to their conditions."

The mayor of Mutale Municipality, Cllr Lucas Manyuha, said the completion of the R22m school will be a major boost to his municipality. "Thengwe is one of the hardworking schools that produce good results in the country and we are happy that education will go smoothly without facility problems. The school accommodates learners from different villages within the Mutale Municipality and beyond, and this is clearly a big boost to our education system."
