MUWAWENI – Two men who robbed two security guards of their work firearms were still on the run at the time of going to press. The incident took place at Muwaweni village in the Tshitale area last Saturday night, at about 23:45.
According to the spokesperson of the police at Tshitale, Insp Lutendo Mashau, two security officers were on duty at the Muwaweni Clinic during the night of the incident. They were in the guardroom next to the main entrance gate when the incident occurred.
The statement indicates that the officers heard a woman’s voice that was pleading for help at the gate. They left the guardroom and went straight to the gate. On arrival at the gate, the security guards looked around and saw nobody.
Suddenly, two armed men emerged from the surrounding bushes and pointed firearms at the victims. The statement further indicates that one of the robbers fired one shot in the air. The robbers then ordered the officers to hand their weapons over to them.
Before the guards adhered to the call to hand their weapons over to the thugs, the robbers started searching them and ultimately dispossessed them of their firearms. The robbers vanished into the surrounding bushes after the incident.
Nobody was injured during the incident. The matter was reported to the police moments thereafter. The thugs were still at large at the time of going to press. The police have appealed to anyone who has information relating to the incident to contact D/Insp Azwinndini Makhavhu at Tel: 0150751937 or 0729097580.
