An unknown woman, believed to be in her late twenties, was found lying dead under a bridge along the Musina-Pondrift Public Road on Monday morning, in what police suspect to be a murder case.
Police spokesman for Vhembe district Insp Thivhulawi Tshilate told Mirror that the woman was discovered at around 07:00. She was naked and had an open wound to the forehead and injuries on the legs.
"The woman was discovered by a farm worker from a nearby farm who was patrolling along the fence and he then reported the matter to the police. We suspect the victim was murdered as she had an open wound to the forehead and scratches on the legs, which means she could have wrestled with the suspect," he said.
Tshilate said police took the body to the Musina Government mortuary for a post mortem.
He said police were also appealing to members of the community who might have missing relatives to contact the Musina police for enquiries.
Tshilate said they have since started investigating the incident.
"We have not yet arrested any suspects and therefore we have launched investigations and again we are also appealing to members of the community to assist us in locating the suspect," said the police spokesman.
Last month, another Zimbabwean illegal immigrant collapsed and died along the same road. He was part of a group of illegal immigrants who had crossed into South Africa through undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River.
