Limpopo Police in Polokwane are following several leads in an attempt to arrest the suspects who are responsible for the vandalization of the house of the Speaker of Limpopo Legislature, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, and also threatening him.
According to the legislature spokesperson, Mr Kenny Mathivha, Farisani and his family have been receiving different types of threats in the past 30 days.
"On Sunday, November 26, 2006, a note was thrown in front of his residence simply reading, shut up. On Monday, November 27, 2006, a brick-like object was also thrown onto the roof of his residence. The incidents were just some of many, because a month ago, the walls of his residence where painted with orange paint."
The Speaker has on a few occasions been accosted by unknown and strange vehicles whilst driving.
Mathivha says Farisani has reported all these incidents. "He added that he would not want to make any speculations on who is responsible, and would rather leave the investigations to the peace and security agencies."
Farisani was deployed to the Limpopo Legislature from the Department of Transport and Public Roads two years ago by the ANC. He was a member of National Parliament since 1994 after his return from exile in 1990. He has been a fierce opponent of apartheid and the homeland systems.
