TSHISAULU – Several people who are regarded as role models in Tshisaulu Village, were honoured during a glittering ceremony at the local playground on Saturday. The family representatives of three fallen heroes, Aaron Nevhutanda, Mmbengeni Kone and Luruli Mufamadi, received certificates and trophies on behalf of their relatives.
People who were operating behind closed doors with the liberation movements during the struggle for liberation were also honoured for their efforts. Among them was the mayor for the Thulamela Municipality, Chief TN Makumbane.
People who had played a major role in educating residents of Tshisaulu also went back home smiling. One of the people whose role will not be easily forgotten is the founder and first principal of Makumbane Primary School, Mr Gumani Bernard Mugivhi. Mr Mugivhi led the school from 1946 until 1962.
The school was the renamed Tshisaulu High Primary and Mugivhi continued to work as the headmaster until 1966. The founder of the Anglican Church in the area, Pastor B Nemakhavhani, was also praisedfor a job well done.
Members of the Tshisaulu Development Committee, Aifheli Makumbane, Albert Mulaudzi, Victor Makumbane, Petrus Madzimbalale, Nditsheni Tshiakale, David Mainganye, Eric Mudau, Portia Ndou, and Abraham Ramabulana, were given certificates of appreciation during the ceremony.
Mr Samson Muthivhi, who was a great athlete during his heyday, and the founders of several soccer teams in the area, Samuel Ramutangwa, Emmanuel Davhana, Cuthbeth Makumbane and Alpheus Tshiongo, were also honoured.
A trophy and a certificate were given to the well-known attorney, Mr Henry Tuwani Netshifhefhe.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the function included the speaker for the Limpopo Provincial legislature, Dean TS Farisani, and Thovhele Toni Mphephu Ramabulana.
Frank is a Human Resources Manager at the Department of Public Works in Limpopo. He is the longest serving correspondent of the Mirror, having joined us at the end of 1990. He mainly writes sports reports and resides at Tsianda Village. In 2004, Frank won the National Castle League Award, an award for the best reporter in the SAB league in South Africa.
