Mbilwi Secondary School once again received the accolade as the top school of the province.
Mbilwi was crowned as the best school in Limpopo during the official announcement of the Grade 12 Examination results on December 28 at a glittering function at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane.
Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, MEC for Education emphasised the importance of the percentage of students who obtained university exemption. Mbilwi had 86 Grade 12 learners of whom 79 or 91.9% obtained university exemption. Only one learner failed, resulting in 98.84% pass rate. For the previous 11 years or so, Mbilwi has boasted a 100% pass rate.
The school that came second after Mbilwi was Harry Oppenheimer in the Capricorn district with a pass rate of 98.4% and 80 % exemptions. The third school was St Bede’s, also in Capricorn, with 97.75 % pass rate and 82% exemptions. Capricorn district was the top district with a 63.1% pass rate. Vhembe and Mopani districts both obtained second position at 55.9% pass rate, a notch above the provincial pass rate of 55.7%.
Mbilwi has been the top school in the province for more than four years in a row.
Well-known for its passion for mathematics and physical science, Mbilwi produced two learners with 400 out of 400 in physical science and one with full marks in mathematics. Terence Thikhathali Ratshidaho obtained 100% for both physical science and maths and Rabelani Nengovhela obtained full marks for physical science. Abelani also obtained eighth position in the province, while Fhulufhedzani Mulaudzi obtained position 21. When asked the secret of their school, Fhulufhedzani answered that there is no secret, but hard work. "Our teachers work very, very hard and also our principal." Rabelani said that the hard work, commitment and perseverance of their science teacher was very helpful. Terence and Rabelani love maths best and made special reference to their maths teacher, Mr T Maleboho. The principal, Mr Nditsheni Ramugondo, had reason to be proud of his school, teachers and Grade 12 learners. He said at a previous occasion that there is no other secret than hard work and dedication.
