Phalaphala and Munghana Lonene FM marked 42 years of giving their listeners more of what they want and less of what they don’t with a special visit to Elim hospital last Friday.

Presenters of the two SABC radio stations celebrated their 42nd anniversary with those who have forgotten to smile and are bed ridden. They visited various wards, telling patients that they do care about them as well as wishing them a speeding recovery.

The acting station manager of Phalaphala FM, Mr Freddy Sadiki, and Mr Mandla Soko, station manager of Munghana Lonene, also came with their presenters.

Presenters from Phalaphala FM who visited the hospital are Mulalo "Lali" Ramarumo, Takalani Thabo, Shandukani Lukhwareni, Brenda Mphephu, Sharon Ravele, Jonas "Jones" Netshipise and veteran presenter Vho-Mukumba. From Munghana Lonene, there were Russell Nkwinika, Quinton Baloyi, Thembi Thobela and Rose Chabalala to mention, to name but a few.

According to the marketing manager of Munghana Lonene, Tshamano Nepfumbada, it was realized that Elim is centrally situated to the listeners of the two SABC radio stations, and they viewed it as important to visit the hospital in order to give hope to those who are sick.

"We are of the view that, when patients see their presenters in person, it will revive their hope and happiness, leading to a speedy recovery. We also wanted to show our listeners that we do care about them," she said.

The two radio stations, according to Nepfumbada, started visiting the hospital last year. The afternoon drive show of both the radio stations were broadcast ed live from the hospital.

Other activities by the presenters, patients and the hospital management included tug-of-war, volleyball and wheelchair racing. The two radio stations were established on February 2, 1965.
