The national Department of Arts and Culture has invested R1million in the Vhakololo Musical Dance Rhythm project.
The funding is part of the department’s "Invest In Culture" programme. Vhakololo Musical Dance Rhythm specializes in contemporary dance inspired by Venda, Tsonga and Pedi traditional dances and aims at reviving cultural diversity through dance and sound.
As a result of the funds injection, the project now needs approximately 30 talented dancers and singers who will be trained in traditional and contemporary singing and dancing skills.
Vhakololo Musical Dance Rhythm’s manager, Dakalo Kwinda, says the aspirant dancers and singers must be between the ages of 17 and 33. "We are forced to recruit new members because most of our original members have gone to further their studies outside Limpopo. We need people who are not doing anything right now because we will need them for most of their time. They will sign a one-year contract and they will receive monthly allowances for the duration of their contract."
Kwinda added that he has already started drawing up touring programs, which will start in August. "Our plans include international and local performances but we will need thorough practice before engaging in the tours."
In December last year, Vhakololo Musical Dance Rhythm performed a thrilling 20-minute production in Hong Kong.
Talented community members who would like to be part of Vhakololo Musical Dance Rhythm can all Dakalo Kwinda at 015 962 8360 during working hours.
