News  Date: 30 March 2007

In a major breakthrough last week, the Thohoyandou police arrested two Zulu-speaking women with seven bags of dagga at Haluvhimbi Village, north of Thohoyandou.

The arrests follow some tip-offs from members of the community who immediately informed the police about the dagga dealing.

Insp Nkanukeni Raedani of the Thohoyandou police says the street value of the dagga is approximately R50 000. He added: "We acted on information we received and immediately rushed to Haluvhimbi village. The dagga weighed about 25,65kg and police immediately seized it after it was discovered in the house at the village. Its street value is approximately R50 000."

Raedani thanked the community for their cooperation with the police. "We are very thankful because the community has joined hands with the police in the war against crime. We are looking forward to more cooperation of this kind because this is the only way we can defeat crime."

The suspects were due to appear at the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s court at the time of going to press.
