The Premier of Limpopo, who is also the chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the province, urged businesspeople to contribute to the development of society. He was the guest speaker during the Limpopo ANC fundraising function held at the Protea Ranch Hotel, outside Polokwane, on Thursday last week.
Moloto said businesspeople had a role to play by giving back something to society. He told hundreds of guests: "Just assist in any way possible because when you give, you end up getting more. We need to do something on our own because the government alone cannot win the war against poverty."
He said the African National Congress is what it is today because of the efforts of some of the businesspeople who supported it financially. "Let’s build this organization so that the coming generation can look back with pride on our hard work. The ANC is the movement for the people and your support will make it strong for time to come."
Moloto urged people from the business sector who care about the liberation struggle to support the ANC financially. "Your joint or individual financial contributions will make it easier for the ANC to achieve its aims. We will not forget to thank you for the support you have been demonstrating from time to time."
After the sensational musician Maduvha Madima entertained the audience, Moloto said: "This province is blessed with the unique talent that you will never get from somewhere else. As a province, we are very proud to have someone like Maduvha, who is taking the music industry by storm. She is surely a shining light for our province."
The function came to a climax when the premier, MECs, parliamentarians and prominent Limpopo businessespeople could not resist putting on their dancing shoes when the internationally acclaimed artist, Ray Phiri, and his band, Stimela, hit them live with their hit song Whisper in the Deep (Phinda Mzala).
