Indian community suffers yet another loss

News  Date: 30 March 2007

For the third time this month, members of the Indian community in and around Makhado (Louis Trichardt) were stricken with grief with the news of the death of yet another one of their pioneering figures, Mr Yusuf Hayee Noor.

Mr Noor passed away on Friday, March 23. He was 75 years old. His death follows just a week after the tragic drowning of three members of the Patel-family at the Nandoni Dam and two weeks after the death of Mr Maganlal Manjee Premjee from M Premjee & Son.

Yusuf Hayee Noor was the brother of the late Mr Mansuli Noor and therefore the uncle of well-known businessman Mr Solly Noor from Solly’s Discount World. He was born in August 1931 and moved to Louis Trichardt in March 1949 from Ermelo.

Mr Noor will be remembered fondly as the familiar face from Abdoolas Cafe in Eltivillas, a business which he started in 1963 on the premises of the present-day Checkout in Songozwi Street. The shop was moved to Eltivillas in 1980.

Yusuf Hayee Noor is survived by his wife Zubeeda and daughters Suraya and Fazeela.
