"How did this man die?" This is the tricky unanswered question about the mysterious death of an unknown man in his twenties, who was found dead at Ha-Makhuvha village, near Donald Fraser Hospital, on Friday morning.
The man had gaping wounds on the head, suggesting that he might have been hit with sharp objects before he died. He also had another terrible wound on the left ribs and his head was full of soil. He also had bruises on both elbows. He wore black trousers, a white t-shirt and had no shoes. His teeth were decorated by gold.
The shocking incident was discovered by community members who were walking along the road in the early hours of Friday morning.
The man’s death raises more questions than answers as no one could explain what exactly had happened. He was found in the long grass, next to a busy public road.
Some suspect that the man might have been knocked over by a runaway car, but there were no signs of a crash or brake marks near the scene. Others suspect that the man might have been murdered somewhere and dumped there. If he was murdered and dumped there, the motive for his murder might not be robbery, because he was found with five R20 notes and a R2 coin in his pocket.
When Mirror arrived at the scene, police were conducting preliminary investigations while undertakers were ready to take the body to the mortuary. After a lengthy investigation at the scene, police requested community members to identify the man, but nobody knew him. Police had also made announcements in different radio stations but no one came forward to claim the body, at the time of going to press.
Supt. Ailwei Mushavhanamadi confirmed the incident and asked community members who know something, to contact the police, as a matter of urgency. He said police suspect that the man might have been knocked down by a car and they have presently registered a case possible culpable homicide.
