A 22-year-old male has been arrested on a charge of murder, following the fatal stabbing a 41-year-old male along President Street on Thursday, April 26.

According to Capt Mashudu Malelo, regional police spokesperson in Thohoyandou, the suspect and the deceased were believed to have been drinking together with two ladies.

It is alleged that the deceased was about to leave with the ladies for the new extension where they were staying.

Capt Malelo said that the suspect got angry as he had bought a lot of liquor for the ladies, and that they were now leaving with the other man. The suspect allegedly confronted the deceased and the woman in President Street, and an argument ensued.

The suspect soon afterwards pulled out a knife and it is said he first stabbed one of the ladies in her thigh. When the deceased tried to intervene, he too was stabbed. His stomach wound proved fatal.

The suspect was arrested and the deceased was taken to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital, before being transferred to the provincial hospital. He later died from his wounds.
