Bicycles for Thohoyandou’s policemen

News  Date: 08 June 2007

The days of the criminals who terrorise community members in the Thohoyandou area are numbered. This comes after the much-awaited decision by the Thohoyandou police to use patrol bicycles to fight crime.

Insp Nkanukeni Readani of the Thohoyandou Police said the police station has acquired 10 bicycles for the initiative. He explains why the initiative is important: "We have realized that there are some criminal spots where our vehicles cannot get access. Bicycles are an easy way to patrol those places. More importantly, it means that we can penetrate everywhere to fight crime."

Raedani says criminals use isolated and awkward spots to conduct their criminal activities. "We will now be able access all the inaccessible places and we want to warn the criminals that there will be no time to smell the coffee."

The top cop added that the bicycles will be used for stop and search activities, more especially in the Thohoyandou area. "We sometimes could not conduct stop and search activities because there were other places we could not access. Now that we have the bicycles, our job will be easier and we will be able to make our place a crime-free zone."
