Demarcation clash at Matondoni

News  Date: 15 October 2004

PHIPHIDI - The demarcation clash between Phiphidi and Matondoni villages took an ugly turn when Phiphidi Villagers allegedly burnt 11 temporary huts of the Matondoni Community to ashes a fortnight ago.

It is reported that the clash started when villagers of Matondoni crossed the Mutshundudi River and started ploughing the land. "A cold war started recently where all four traditional leaders of Matondoni Village were given letters from a lawyer that forbade them to plough across the Mutshundudi River,” said resident Tendani “Mutendi” Madzinge.

He alleged that the arson attack took place in front of the police at the Phiphidi Satellite station, but they did not intervene. “The police did not arrest the perpetrator and there is no democracy in the Tshivhase area,” said Mr Madzinge.

“We are still suffering under the oppression of the Phiphidi Community,” said Madzinge, the chairperson of the Civic Organization.

Thovhele Kennedy Midiyavhathu Tshivhase is still baffled by the action taken by his sub-ordinates who allegedly burnt down 11 temporary huts during the demarcation clash. He said that the situation cannot be allowed to get out of hand and he will take a resolution on Sunday. “This is my land and no one is allowed to fight over my portion of land,” said Tshivhase.
