“I am a chief and Sihlalangenkani is my land. No one can take it away from me,” says Mr Sinky Makushu.

“This is my land …”

"I am a chief and this land belongs to me. I am the direct descendent of Chief Musolommbi Makushu who discovered Musina. So, I cannot just keep quiet when the Musina Municipality takes my land without permission."

This was said by Mr Sinky Makushu, the chairperson of the Greater Musina Development Forum, who says the Musina Municipality undermined him by demolishing shacks at Sihlangenkani, an area which he claims belongs to him.

"That land belongs to me and there is no one who has authority over it, except me. They should have consulted with me to my satisfaction before they destroyed the shacks belonging to my people," fumed Makushu.

Makushu said he has reliable historical background which clearly supports that he is the owner of the land. "I have proof that I am the rightful ruler of this place. I understand that the municipality has demolished the shacks but I will never rest until I get the recognition that I deserve. My grandfather, Musolommbi Makushu, is the one who discovered Musina and everyone came after him. The municipality does not win this land and I will do everything to have my land brought back to me. I will rather die than lose the precious and fertile land of my ancestors."

Meanwhile, the acting communication manager of Musina Municipality, Mr David Mokobi, labelled Makushu as a fortune seeker who wants to gain cheap publicity through the media. "We do not recognize him as a chief. When and by whom was he installed? He is just like anyone else and he does not have royal blood in his veins. The land belongs to the municipality and we will never stop developing it because of selfish people who want to block the development of our area."
