THOHOYANDOU – As part of their social responsibility, Black Leopards Football Club have joined hands with one of the Limpopo-based SABC radio stations, Phalaphala FM, and embarked on a fundraising project to finance the needy.

It all started when a delegation from the Takalani Children’s Home approached the radio station for a donation last month. The station notified its partner, Black Leopards Football Club, about the request from the charity organization.

A decision was then reached to close ranks and embark on a car wash fundraising campaign in order to respond to the request from the organization. Last Friday, October 8, was then set aside for the campaign. A few announcers and the administrative staff were left in the station just to keep the home fires burning while Black Leopards pledged to use their Johannesburg offices as a cashier’s office to receive the donations from the people who were touched by the call to assist poor children.

As if that were not enough, all the players and officials, including the team’s managing director, Mr David Thidiela, and the technical staff, were deployed at the various washing points. Realizing that the project was worth supporting, other local businesses, including Gizara Car Wash, Mulaudzi Bus Service, New Capricorn Developers, Enos Bus Service, Eddies Car Wash, Professional Insurance Brokers, Vevisa Lodge, Magwaba Bus Service, Tshibevha Car Wash and Tshifudi Car Wash decided to jump onto the bandwagon. In the end, it became one of the biggest Black Leopards and Phalaphala FM brainchildren.

According to the team’s managing director, Mr David Thidiela, last Friday’s event was just the tip of the iceberg. He revealed that the club has donated hundreds of thousands of rands to needy charity organizations during the past years. His words were echoed by the radio station’s marketing manager, Mrs Lufu Madima, who indicated that Phalaphala FM has on countless occasions rescued many needy charity organizations, financially and otherwise.
