A 67 year-old granny from Matswale area in Musina was raped and robbed of her cell phone at knifepoint, allegedly by an unknown suspect who broke into her home, police have said.

Station communicator for Musina SAPS, Debra Bob said that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 20 June at around 22:00 at Matswale suburb in the border town.

"The victim was at her home alone when she was confronted by the knife wielding suspect after he had broken into her house," she said. The intruder entered the house through an open window and no arrest was made. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is currently on the run.

"As police we are now appealing to community members to assist us with information which could possibly lead to the arrest of the suspect," said Bob.
