In what many people are describing as a great achievement for a police officer, the much-respected local police superintendent, Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, has been admitted as an advocate.

Mushavhanamadi, who is the spokesperson for the police in the Vhembe area was admitted as an advocate in the Thohoyandou High Court last Thursday.

The talkative cop joined the then Venda National Force (VNF) 23 years ago. When asked as to whether his new achievement will make him forget about his long service in the SAPS to pursue his legal career, Mushavhanamadi revealed that it was still too early to talk about that.

He further indicated that he will make up his mind in due course, saying that he was not in a hurry. Mushavhanamadi said that he will, in the meantime, be assisting in the law clinic of the University of Venda on a part time basis in a bid to service his new career.

According to him, his childhood dream was to become a police officer and that is the reason why it will not be easy for him to bid farewell to his current job. Mushavhanamadi did not deny the fact that he will turn his back to the SAPS if he gets attractive offers elsewhere.

The 47-year-old advocate matriculated at Guvhukuvhu High School way back in 1984. He could not further his studies because his mother was too poor to send him to tertiary institutions. The year 1997 saw Mushavhanamadi becoming the spokesperson for the Thohoyandou Police Station.

He is now the head of communications in the Vhembe area where he speaks for 21 police stations. During his service in the SAPS, Mushavhanamadi accumulated countless accolades including certificates and trophies as the best communicator in the province.

Mushavhanamadi is equiped with an honours degree in police science. The LLB degree was conferred to him during the University of Venda graduation ceremony that was held recently. He is currently studying towards a Masters degree in law.
