The Chairperson of Vhembe Albinism Forum, Mr Rapson Rambuwani is a worried man. The reason for his worry is that there are people who are making thousands of rands in the name of albinism.
The disappointed Rambuwani told Mirror that last week, he discovered that there is a group of approximately three albino men who are moving around Thohoyandou town requesting people to donate funds for buying medication like sun protection cream.
Rambuwani says that there is no use for anyone to move around asking for donations, because the Department of Health and Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum have sponsored the albino community with a large quantity of medication. "Those guys are fortune seekers who want to rob people of their hard earned cash. Vhembe Albinism Forum will never keep quiet when people are being robbed by day light. We have lots and lots of medication which we are handing over free of charge, to those who suffer from albinism. The medication is kept at Tshilidzini Special School," said Rambuwani.
Rambuwani added that the guys boasted that they have lots of money and they lure young girls for drinking sprees. "I tried to confront them but they ran away because they know that what they are doing is wrong. I have also heard that the guys are always drunk and they never use the money for the intended purpose. As a forum, we have done our best to improve the lives of those who suffer from albinism and we have organized government grants for them. We will obviously get them and steps will have to be taken against them."
Mirror tried to locate the three guys in vain, but we will continue searching for them until we hear their side of the story.
