Three people were instantly killed when their car, a Volkswagen Jetta sedan, collided with a bus on the Tshiozwi road in the Sinthumule area last Friday afternoon. The accident took place approximately 8km from the position where a bus and a car accident happened on the 6th of last month. Four people were killed in that accident.
According to eyewitnesses, it looked as if the Jetta’s tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle. It swerved into an oncoming bus and after it hit the bus, the vehicle rolled a few times.
Residents of the area watched helplessly as officials of the emergency services and members of the local fire brigade struggled to free the victims from the badly damaged car. It took them approximately an hour to recover the bodies from the wreck.
According to Constable Maloa of the Tshilwavhusiku Police Station, the victims of the accident are Mr Tsietsi Enerst Ndou (80), Mrs Madala Emerlina Ndou (72) and Mr Nkhumeleni Eddy Ndou (49) from Misevhe B in the Mashau area. They were coming from a funeral at Manavhela Village in the Kutama area when the accident occurred.
The bus driver was rushed to the hospital with head injuries. Eight passengers of the bus were also rushed to the hospital, where they were stabilized.
According to Maloa, a case of culpable homicide was opened.
Mrs Ndou will be laid to rest this evening (Friday) and the two men tomorrow (Saturday).
