A new headman for the rural village of Khalavha has been installed by Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase during a ceremony held at Khalavha royal kraal last Saturday.

The headman, Musanda Vho-Takalani Mpfuneni Tshivhase, an educator at Maname Paradise Combined School, is the son of the late headman, Gilbert Mulondo, who passed away in 2004.

The provincial chairperson of the Limpopo Youth Commission, Rodgers Tshivhase, is a ndumi of the installed headman, while the khadzi is Humbelani Tshivhase.

Mr Gerson Mahada from the Premier´s office in Vhembe district said Tshivhase´s chieftaincy ceremony is the eighth since the beginning of this year. He congratulated the unity shown by the Tshivhase royal family in organising the ceremony.

According to Mahada, in other royal families, ceremonies of installing traditional leaders are always characterised by differences in the form of court interdicts. Mahada said that such differences are causing a huge backlog in the installation of traditional leaders in the province.

The chairperson of the civic association, Thifheli Muthelo, said that they are ready to work under the instruction of the new headman.
