The Levubu SAPS house-breaking task team have nabbed three illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe who have been stealing valuable goods from the farming community around Levebu.
It is understood that the suspects committed burglary at plot 16A in Levubu, belonging to Mr Chris Theunissen, in July and stole items to the value of about R25 000.
Through their rigorous search last Thursday, the Levubu SAPs house-breaking task team, led by Capt BM Nemavhola, arrested a 26-year-old Zimbabwean with a batch of suspected stolen goods. His two accomplices, both aged 21, managed to ran away, but only for few hours as they were later arrested in different areas.
The three Zimbabweans have been charged with house breaking with intent to steal and theft. Amongst the confiscated stolen goods was a set of expensive cutlery, duvets and copper wire.
As if that was not enough, the suspects were also found in possession of uniforms which are usually worn by senior members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), a framed photograph of the church´s Bishop and a briefcase, which contained funds for the church.
"We understand that perhaps these guys have decided to steal the ZCC uniform, thinking that it was a Springbok jersey because it is also green with yellow stripes. We are urging members of the community within our policing area to come and identify the stolen goods at the police station," said Supt H Makhuvha, Station Commissioner of Levubu SAPS.
According to Capt Nemavhola, the uniform was stolen at Tshakhuma Luvhalani and it has been identified by a ZCC pastor from that village. The three illegal Zimbabweans are expected to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court soon.
Over the weekend, the Levubu SAPS Reaction Unit arrested 47 people for public drinking, eight for illegal gambling, five for being found in possession of dagga, three for common robbery, two for rape, one for armed robbery, one for attempted rape, six for house breaking and theft, seven for assault and one for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
