The Musina Municipality did it again by producing the best woman farmer of the year. Mrs Selina Ndou of Musina was nominated the best woman farmer of the year at the Vhembe Woman Farmer of the year function that was held at the Louis Trichardt show grounds last Saturday.

The Vhembe´s annual Woman Farmer of the year competition is facilitated by the Department of Agriculture, where all the municipalities in Vhembe gather to nominate the best woman farmer in the district.

According to Mrs Constance Nelwamondo from the Department of Agriculture, this year´s competition was delayed, due to the public sector strike. Nelwamondo added that the competition used to take place at all the munipalities, before the final one at district level. "We decided that because the competition was delayed, we had to centralise all the municipalities. I also wish the winners good luck, hoping that they will represent us very well at the provincial level and that they will qualify to compete at national level," she said.

Other categories where women received recognition ranged from House Hold, Natural Market, Informal to Top Exporter. Bale community project was also awarded with a certificate for their project.

The winner’s trophy was handed over to Mrs Selina Ndou by last year´s winner, Mrs Livhuwani Mulaudzi. Ndou was awarded a trophy and a cheque of R2 500.

The mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr Glory Mashaba, said in an interview with Mirror that she was happy to see that even women who represented Limpopo in the previous years were coming from the Vhembe District. "It is good to see those women are doing well. We are proud to celebrate woman´s month. I am proud of women like Mrs Tshilande of Musina, Mrs Mukatuni of Nzhelele, Mrs Sinwamali of Levubu and Livhuwani Mulaudzi," said the mayor.
