Local lawyer elected to lead national Cultural Forum

André Naudé has been elected as chairperson of the South African Cultural Forum, involving representatives of Lydenburg, Pretoria, Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein and the Cape.

"Our goal is the preservation of the Cultural Heritage goods of all cultural groups. We are registering the Cultural Forum in terms of the legislation and the constitution is in the process of being approved," Mr Naudé said.

Naudé, local attorney and chairperson of the Chairpersons Association, applauded the CA’s influential role in the establishing of the Cultural Forum at a CA meeting held on August 2.

The principles of the Cultural Forum will be non-political, reconciliation and focus on the preservation of all cultural goods in order to reconcile all cultural groups in South Africa.

"We have already approached the Khoi-San and Zulu people as well as all our local people, who are all interested in joining this cultural forum. The forum is going to play a great role in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage," Naudé said.

Well-known historian Prof Louis Changuion is involved in the establishing of the forum.

Prof Changuion, as well as Mr Alexander Smail from Buysdorp, was nominated to serve on the National Geographical Names Council, which is due to be elected soon.
