The Makuya SAPS held its first enhancement session for its members last week. The function was held at Makuya Park, near Exxaro Tshikondeni Mine.

Station Commissioner Capt Hangwani Khabubu said the special occasion was held to motivate the more than 60 members to do their daily chores diligently and with dignity. She said: "Our members are working very hard and they have put this station on the map. We have also won several awards but we still felt that there was a need to hold this function because the revival of their morale will encourage them even more. We care much about the wellbeing of our members so that they can perform their duties with ease. We believe this will be an annual event because we realized that it bears fruits for our members."

Well-known motivational speaker and guest of honour Pastor Edwin Mmbadi of the Deliverance and Fire Ministries urged Makuya police officers to work as a team. "Your leader has carried the vision of the station and you must support her to achieve it. Life needs people who have visions and if you do not have a vision of your own, you will not be able to interpret other people’s visions. Respect your seniors and support them because if you want to be a leader, you must first become a faithful servant."

Mmbadi further requested the police officers to do their jobs willingly, instead of being pushed by their seniors. "Your job is a calling and you must do it voluntarily and with discipline. Only unity will make you strong, letting the name of your police station grow."

He urged police officers to refrain from alcohol abuse, drug abuse, family violence and other unbecoming actions that can degrade the SAPS. "You carry the torch of the SAPS and we expect you to behave in a dignified manner. I am happy that to hear that Makuya SAPS has won several awards, an indication that you are working hard."

One of the members who attended the enhancement session, Const Ndivhuwo Nemavhola, said it was a lifetime experience which she will never forget. "Our souls have been lifted and we have gone another step up. This is a great experience which does not deserve to be missed."
