A well known member of the community, Mrs Vera Mary Frances Ball (nee Mavor), passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 8, at the age of 92.
She was born in 1915 in Georges’ Valley and at a young age moved to Nooitgedacht in the Muldersdrift area. She grew up knowing great men such as Generals Potgieter and De La Rey, amongst others.
She married the late Rex Ball and they had an only child, Dennis.
They later joined the Bandelierkop community together with her father, the late Captain Roddy Mavor, known as "Oompie", as well as her son Dennis, who was already settled in the area. The family made a large contribution in the establishment of the Bonsmara Cattle Breeders Society and she was involved in all the farming activities for many years.
The last few years she spent with her grandson Richard and his family on the farm Gaaroskraal near Louis Trichardt, where she passed away last Saturday.
She leaves behind her son Dennis and his wife Carol, as well as three grandchildren, Catherine, Kenneth and Richard, and their spouses Angela and Joanne. She also had five greatgrandchildren, Kirsten, Chantal, Rachel, Micaela and John D.
The family expressed their thanks to Drs Casper Venter and Anton Stroebel as well as the staff at Zoutpansberg Private Hospital and Maud Myburgh. They would also like to thank all the people who phoned with condolences.
"We appreciate your thoughts and kind words."
A service will be held at St Marks Anglican Church at 10:00 on Friday, September 14.
