News  Date: 21 September 2007

The executive dean of the school of humanities, management sciences and law at the University of Venda, Prof Rocky Ralebipi, takes a new responsibility when she joins the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein as the deputy vice-chancellor (academic).

Her farewell function was held at the University of Venda principal’s dining room on Thursday last week.

Univen’s acting vice-chancellor and principal, Dr Jim Leatt, expressed appreciation for the role played by Ralebipi in the development of the university. He said the university will miss her for her hard work, dedication and distinctive leadership skills. "Although our hearts are at pain, we are on the other hand happy because we have produced a leader whose ability has been recognized by one of the biggest institutions in the country. We wish her well and success in her demanding new position. We will always remember her for all the good things she did to make the university what it is today."

In response, Prof Ralebipi said she was leaving the university with a heavy, but not angry, heart. She thanked the university for giving her the opportunity to realize her potential.

"Although I am exited about the new challenges, I will never in my life forget to appreciate what Univen has done for me. My stay here was an eye-opener and it made me grow to become what I am today. I never had sleepless nights or stress during my stay and I could rather stay here, doing the job until midnight, than drag my office home. My message to you whom I’m leaving behind is that you must do your level best for the development of this institution."
