No bail yet for Khojas shooting suspect

News  Date: 21 September 2007

The three suspects arrested for the murder of well-known businessman Yogendra Baboo Ghelani (60) and the attempted murder of his father, Baboo Mohanlal Ghelani (84), in Louis Trichardt on September 5, appeared in the local magistrate’s court again this week.

Dovhani Richard Raphebele (26) and Mulalo Prince Ludere (30) from Madombidzha, as well as Mehmed Panwala (30) tried to apply for bail on Wednesday. Court proceedings could not, however, be finalized and their case was postponed until October 12. They will remain in custody until their next appearance to apply for bail.

During Panwala’s court appearance this week he stated that he is from India. He could, however, not supply any documented proof of this as he said he had lost his passport. Initially it was suspected that he was of Pakistani origin. By his own account he has been staying in South Africa for the past nine years.
