Chief Thinawanga Leonard Randima of Khubvi intensified his fight against crime over the weekend. This became evident when he addressed hundreds of his subjects at Khubvi Primary School on Sunday morning.
The crime awareness campaign was a joint effort between the chief himself, the SAPS, the local community policing forum and the local civic association.
Chief Randima said there is a need for everyone to come together to defeat the monster of crime. He advised his subjects to act as ambassadors in the war against crime. He continued: "We are tired of these criminal activities and we want this place to be a crime-free zone. Crime only destroys our future and we have to do our best to get rid of it. As leaders, we will never allow our beloved community members to be brutalized by people who do not have respect for human life."
The chief told his subjects to report any criminal activities to community leaders or the police. "If you are harbouring the criminals, it means that you are also participating in criminal activities. All criminals deserve to rot in jail and they do not have room in our society. Report any criminal activity so that action can be taken immediately."
He further told the people not to assist illegal immigrants. "It is totally against the law to harbour illegal immigrants. Strongest disciplinary action will be taken against those who are found guilty of harbouring them."
Capt Nndwakhulu Phalanndwa of the Thohoyandou SAPS said the police will spare no effort in the war against crime. "We will work together with traditional leaders, civic organizations and other community stakeholder until we defeat crime. We are impressed by the huge turnout here and it shows that the people of Khubvi are eager to do away with crime."
