MOPANI – The police at Bolobedu are investigating a case of murder and suicide, following a tragic incident that took place at the Harapi Village in the Bolobedu area on Saturday night at about 20:00.

According to the spokesperson for the police in the Mopani area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect, Elvis Mashaba (35), was released from prison on parole a few days before the incident.

His stay in prison was the result of assaulting his former girlfriend, Rosinah Ramahlo (40). During the night of the incident, Mashaba proceeded to Ramahlo’s kraal. On arrival at Ramahlo’s home, Mashaba started to question her about her pregnancy.

The inquiry allegedly turned into an argument, during which Ramahlo started to run away. The suspect followed and started to stab her from behind as she was running for her life. She eventually fell down next to her neighbour’s gate. The suspect continued to stab her in the spinal cord with a panga and she died on the spot.

The suspect disappeared after the incident. The police launched a manhunt shortly after the incident, but Mashaba could not be traced. His body was found hanging from the rafters of his house on Tuesday morning. The police are investigating the matter further.
