MOPANI – A 32-year-old resident of Medieng Village in the Bolobedu area, Evans Sekomane, briefly appeared in the Bolobedu magistrate’s court on Monday on a charge of murder. The case relates to an incident that took place at the Medieng village last Saturday night at about 22:00.
According to the police spokesperson in the area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that the deceased, Lawrence Mashao (31) and his friend went to the suspect’s home during the night of the incident. They were looking for the girlfriend of Mashao’s friend.
On arrival at the suspect’s kraal, they knocked on the door. The statement indicates that the suspect came out of the house, holding a garden fork. The deceased and his friend started to run away and the suspect chased them. When they were a distance away, Mashao slipped and fell down.
The suspect allegedly started stabbing him with the weapon. He was stabbed several times in the back of the head. He died on the spot. The deceased’s friend managed to escape and vanished in the darkness. The suspect proceeded to the local police station after the incident. He told the police the whole incident and finally revealed to them that he had killed a person. He led the police to the scene of the incident before they locked him up for the whole weekend until he appeared in court on Monday. He was not asked to plead.
Evans Sekomane (32) will remain in custody until his next court date on Thursday, November 4, as his bail application was not entertained. The police are investigating the matter further.
