The Last Post Private Nature Reserve near Bandelierkop has embarked on a project that again gives meaning to the term community involvement by bringing local artists into contact with both the national and international market.
The management of the reserve went out and identified several people from neighbouring villages who exhibited art and craft skills but did not have excess to the tourism market or the necessary backup to market their skills successfully. They then started taking visitors to these artists as part of the reserve’s daytrip activities and even showcase some of these artists’s work at the reserve, including photographs of artwork from which visitors can place orders.
During one of these daytrips, visitor Mr Giel Nel from Allpower Talisman Tool Hire & Battery Centre in Louis Trichardt was fascinated by a young man, 18-year-old Mufamadi Fhatuwani, who exhibited some amazing skills. Working only with some scissors and a pair of pliers, young Mufamadi had the unique ability to build detailed wire vehicles, covering them with tin in the end. He uses pictures and drawings of vehicles to build wire vehicles to a client’s exact specifications and even designs his own brand of vehicles.
Recognising the 18-year-old’s talent, Mr Nel decided to not only support Last Pot’s community project but also donate a large number of tools young Mufamadi needed to further perfect his skill. Mr Nel also took some of Mufamadi’s finished vehicles to display at this shop in Louis Trichardt.
Last Post Private Nature Reserve thanked the management of Allpower Talisman Tool Hire & Battery Centre for their support.
"Hopefully this talented man can now better his skills with the tools donated to him and generate money to finish his schooling and help support his family," said Mr Barend Lombard, tourism manager at Last Post.
Any person interested in buying one of these very unique vehicles or wants more information on the community project, is invited to phone Barend at Tel 082 888 4463.
