A disabled man, who refused to be relegated to a useless class of individuals, continues to be an ambassador against hunger, poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment.
Chillboy Rathando of Nzhelele-Mauluma has been hailed by many as a saviour, who provides them with a slice of bread to keep their family fires burning.
Chillboy did all these through Phalaphala FM Piece Job Programme, where he employs an average of 30 unemployed community members per week.
"Being disabled does not necessarily mean that one cannot contribute in the development of his community. Many disabled people only wait for the government disability grant without doing anything to improve their lives. Look, there are many normal people who do not even know what they are going to eat at the end of the day. As a responsible person, I felt that I must do something to show other disabled people that they can also change other people’s lives."
He was born with a left deformed leg which took the doctors many attempts to restore but with no success. "I had to accept my condition and go on with life without depending on anybody for survival."
He owns a company called Rathando Cleaning and Toilet Services which specializes in controlling pests, snakes and cleaning and draining toilets. "Although I am disabled, I felt that I can establish myself in the business world and provide indigent people with job opportunities. Because I usually get a lot of clients, I make sure that I employ more people so that I can satisfy my clients, thereby assisting the community members with the much needed job skills for survival."
In the past Chillboy has sponsored countless beauty pageants, soccer tournaments and community development initiatives around the province. "I will never stop doing this because I love my community and I have to give something back. It is also my responsibility to fight poverty and I believe that other disabled people will follow suite."
Chillboy says he wants to empower other disabled people to start their own companies and create jobs. He can be called at 072 320 0523.
