Primary School teacher in court on rape charge

A 12-year-old Grade 7 pupil of Maebane village in the Kutama area was allegedly raped by one of her teachers a week ago.

The girl was rushed to the Louis Trichardt Hospital after the incident, where the doctors confirmed that she had been raped. According to Const Khakhu Maiwashe of the Tshilwavhusiku Police Station´s Communication Unit, a case of rape was opened against a 55-year-old teacher.

Maiwashe added that the suspect was arrested and first appeared at the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate Court. The case was postponed to a later date for further investigations.

Maiwashe added that the suspect was granted bail of R1 000 by the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court. "The suspect will appear again at the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on December 20," she says.
