THOHOYANDOU – A customer of Spar Supermarket in Thohoyandou, Mrs Humbulani Adziambei Mafadza (30) of Muledane Village, has won a brand new Opel Corsa 1400 bakkie in the Spar win a Car Competition. The draw for the lucky winner was conducted at the store on Sunday.

Mafadza, an unemployed mother of four children, shed tears of joy when the local boxing hero, Philip “The Time Bomb” Ndou announced that she was the winner of the grand prize. Mafadza, who was accompanied by her husband, Moses, was quick to reveal that she was going to sell the vehicle. She stated that neither she nor her husband has a driver’s license.

She further indicated that they will use part of the money to renovate the house and that the remainder will be invested for the children’s education. She appealed to those who managed to reach the final stage of the competition and failed to win the grand prize not to despair, saying there is always next time in life and that their time will come.

According to the competition manager, Mrs Belinda Janse van Rensburg, they will soon start with a new competition. The rules for the competition are simple. The basic requirement is that one must buy goods to the value of R150 at a time.

She said that Mafadza was the third winner in the Spar win a car competition this year. A resident of Tshisaulu village, Mrs Violet Mulaudzi, was the first to drive away with a brand new Opel Corsa way back in June. Mr Colbert Singo of Tshidzini village was the winner of a Totota Hiace the following month.

Mrs van Rensburg further stated that the store is committed to give a fraction of their profit back to the community. According to her, they part with huge amounts of money every month in the form of donations. Spar Supermarket, in conjunction with the Limpopo Mirror, recently donated R20 000 to the Vhananyana Mountain School. The money was raised through a half-marathon in Thohoyandou.
