On Friday morning, January 4, yet another life was lost in one of the many vehicle accidents over the festive period when two vehicles collided along the Thohoyandou road.
According to Louis Trichardt police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadiki, the preliminary report indicates that the driver of one of the vehicles lost control, causing it to collide with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. One of the drivers was killed, while the other was rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital. A case of culpable homicide was opened soon afterwards.
The name of the deceased is still unknown as his next of kin were still to be notified.
In another accident, which occurred on the Witvlag Road, a bakkie collided with another vehicle after apparently bursting a tyre. Five people, of whom four were infants, were travelling in the vehicle and two in the bakkie. Two of the infants, aged one and six months, were killed. The injured were rushed to hospital. A case of culpable homicide was also opened.
