The roads in Limpopo claimed another well-known resident when one of Munghana Lonene FM’s top DJs, Ms Hlekani Mavasa, died in a car accident on her way back to Limpopo from Gauteng at the end of December.

According to reports, the accident was caused by a tyre burst and happened near Kranskop. She was alone in the vehicle and was certified dead at the scene.

Thousands of mourners turned up to pay their last respects to their favorite DJ. The funeral service took place at Njhakanjhaka community hall. All Munghana Lonene FM´s staff, supported by Phalaphala FM and Thobela FM, were there to bid their last goodbye to an ever-smiling DJ. Other heavyweights who were there included the chief manager of SABC Limpopo, Mr Victor Ravhuazwo, and ML FM manager, Mr Mandla Soko.

Rose Chabalala, a co-presenter at ML FM, described DJ Hlekza as a talented young lady who was very kind and who always smiled to everyone. The station manager, Mr Mandla Soko, told the mourners that DJ Hlekza was a responsible young lady who survived where other young people of her age had dismally failed.

"Hlekza was not a victim of teenage pregnancy, alcohol or drug abuse, neither was she a victim of HIV/Aids. It was unfortunate that she was involved in a fatal accident that stole her precious life," said Soko. He further told the mourners that DJ Hlekza joined the station when she was only 19 years old in 2005 but her works were awesome. "She has left a void that cannot be filled and I will respect and miss her for a long time," said Soko.

At the time of her death, DJ Hlekza was a presenter of Xitimela xa na mixo, Morning train, during week days. DJ Hlekza is survived by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
