The body of a new born infant, believed to be one day old, was found dead under a lapa at well-known football team, Black Leopard’s clubhouse in President Street in Louis Trichardt.

The caretaker of the property made the gruesome discovery last week and immediately contacted the police.

Louis Trichardt police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadike said that the police have opened a case of concealment of birth and are investigating the matter. He called on all community members to come forward with any information which might help the police locate the deceased infant’s mother. Capt Sadike said that although one can never be certain about the motive for concealing the birth of a child, poverty or even the lack of responsibility from the father might play a role. He urged all pregnant mothers considering such drastic matters to rather ask for help and assistance from the Department of Health and Welfare.
